The importance of building a list through your blog to increase blog traffic
Hey! Good to see you again! Thanks for coming back! Would you please take 5 minutes to fill in a survey to let me know you better? Thanks
Building a mailing list inside your blog is one of the most powerful ways to increase blog traffic as a whole. In fact, you should know that returning visitors are a strong measurement of any blog. They are an indication you are connecting with your readers. Furthermore, they are showing you are posting about subjects that meets their interests. It also makes it easier to build a community within your blog.
If you are not building a list at all, you are missing a great resource. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.
Sign up for an autoresponder
You need to keep ion contact with the people who sign up for your list. An autoresponder service is the only way to go. Sure you don’t want to manually send your email to a list that hopefully is growing to thousands.
An auto responder will manage your list, handle sign-ups and deliver your emails from their remote servers. This way, you don’t have to worry about installing any software, messing around with setting or updates nor backups. You also won’t have to worry about false spam complaints. Because this is the quickest way to get your web host to shut you down.
Add an op-tin form
Your blog is one of the best places to build a sign up form to build your list. This should be your first thing to do when you are creating the blog, aside of adding content. Put your op-tin form in a prominent place on your site, for instance at the top of the sidebar, or in the header or, why not, at the end of each post. Actually I found out that more than one opt-in form on the same page increases conversion rates. If you are doubtful about that, try it out. I agree on the fact that 2 opt-in forms on the same page may look graphically redundant. That’s why I hid one of them in the sidebar under an image. As for the form code, it will be given by you by you autoresponder company. At the most, you will to customize it as you like using an html editor.
Other way, you can find a plugin that helps you do it all on Worpress at (It is the one you see at the end of this post)
Give them a free bribe to join
This is a proven and true way to get people to join your list. It’s called an ethical bribe. You are giving them something of value in exchange for their email address. The gift you give them to join should be something interesting for your target audience. This gives readers a strong incentive to sign up. Typically this could be a special report, or mini-guide no one else has or a video which, apparently, can give the best results. As for me, I didn’t try this one yet and I’m still offering good old books. Maybe I will soon decide to give this thing a little boost.
Use an exit pop-up to capture leaving traffic
Here is a powerful, yet unobtrusive way to build your list. You place a offer to sign up as they are leaving your blog. This form pops up when they are leaving. You give them a chance to be reminded of your next post. If they like your content they will appreciate the opportunity to be reminded. I like to do it this way so your are not getting in the way of their reading.
